We deliver on both sides of the border, but solid fuel is regulated differently in the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland, for tax and for air quality.
In the Republic, the sale and distribution of solid fuel is governed by the Air Pollution Act 1987 (Solid Fuels) Regulations 2022, which took effect on 31 October 2022 and are overseen by the Environmental Protection Agency and local councils. Coal, peat briquettes and other peat supplied in the State are also subject to Solid Fuel Carbon Tax, collected by Revenue. Wood with no solid fuel component is not.
In Northern Ireland, district councils can declare smoke control areas. Inside one, you can only burn authorised fuels or use an exempted appliance. Your council can tell you whether your address is in one.
